Whareroa marae is located just across the harbour from Tauranga in Mount Maunganui. The primary hapū for the marae are Ngāi Tukairangi and Ngāti Kuku of Ngāi Te Rangi.
The whare tipuna is named Rauru ki Tahi. Whareroa connects ancestrally to the waka Mataatua, the maunga Mauao and the moana Tauranga.
