Ruawharo marae is located in Ōpoutama, Māhia. Its principal hapū are Ngāti Tama and Rongomaiwahine of Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.
The wharenui is also called Ruawharo. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Takitimu and Kurahaupō, the maunga Taupiri, and the awa Waipiata.
