Ruawharo marae is located in Ōpoutama, Māhia. Its principal hapū is Ngāti Tama of Rongomaiwahine and Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.
The wharenui is also called Ruawharo. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Kurahaupō, the maunga Te Ara O Paikea and the awa Te Moana Nui A Kiwa.
